NHS induction guides in Persian

A free set of plain-language guides that help Farsi-speaking refugees, asylum seekers and new arrivals use the NHS and the support systems around it.

What this is

Fifteen guides, each answering one practical question in Persian, in the words people actually use. Every guide is paired with a short video, so the material works for people with limited literacy as well as for confident readers.

The content assumes no prior knowledge of the NHS and no English. It is written for someone in their first weeks in the UK who is trying to work out how to see a doctor, what is free, what they are entitled to, and what to say when they get there.

How the guides are made

Each guide is written from primary NHS and government sources rather than translated from existing leaflets.

  • Sources are NHS England, nhs.uk and GOV.UK, listed in full at the foot of every guide

  • Every guide carries a last reviewed date

  • Charges and eligibility rules that change each April tell the reader to check the current figure on nhs.uk rather than trusting the number on the page

  • Entitlement claims are kept specific to the topic. "No documents or immigration status needed" is stated for GP registration and emergency care, where it is true, and never presented as a blanket rule across housing, benefits or dental charges, where it is not

  • Mehr Health CIC is PIF TICK certified. Digipezeshk was the UK's first non-English-language health platform to achieve PIF TICK certification from the Patient Information Forum

These are Mehr Health guides. They are not an official NHS or government service, and every guide says so and points the reader to nhs.uk and gov.uk.

Using this in your service

Send a direct link. Every guide has its own address, so you can send a client straight to the one page they need rather than to a homepage they then have to navigate in a second language.

Use it alongside an interpreter, not instead of one. The guides prepare someone for an appointment. They do not replace interpreting during it.

Lead with the interpreter guide. In practice it is the one that unlocks the others, because a client who knows they can ask for a Farsi interpreter, free, gets more out of every appointment that follows.

Tell us what is missing. The topic list is driven by what people actually ask. If your clients keep hitting the same wall and there is no guide for it, that is the most useful thing you can tell us.
